3 · Grammaire
3.1 · Aller (to go) — irregular and essential
| aller | উচ্চারণ | |
|---|---|---|
| je | vais | জ্য ভ্যা |
| tu | vas | ত্যু ভা |
| il / elle / on | va | ইল ভা |
| nous | allons | নুজ়ালোঁ |
| vous | allez | ভুজ়ালে |
| ils / elles | vont | ইল ভোঁ |
You already know it from Ça va ? (literally "does it go?") and Comment allez-vous ?. In A1·10 it also makes the near future (je vais manger = I'm going to eat).
- Je vais à la banque.
- Tu vas où ? — Je vais au travail.
- Nous allons chez le médecin. (chez = to someone's place)
- Ils vont à Montréal en train.
3.2 · à and de with the definite article — the contractions
| à + (to, at) | de + (of, from) | |
|---|---|---|
| + le | au cinéma · au marché | du cinéma · du marché |
| + la | à la gare · à la poste | de la gare · de la poste |
| + l' | à l'hôpital · à l'école | de l'hôpital · de l'école |
| + les | aux toilettes · aux États-Unis | des toilettes · des États-Unis |
au = ও, aux = ও (ওজ় before vowel), du = দ্যু, des = দে. The contractions are compulsory — à le and de le do not exist.
- La pharmacie est en face du cinéma.
- La banque est à côté de la poste.
- Je viens du Bangladesh. (countries: du Canada, de France, des États-Unis)
- Je vais au Canada, en France, aux États-Unis. (to a country: au for masculine, en for feminine, aux for plural)
3.3 · The imperative — giving instructions
Use the tu, nous or vous present form without the pronoun. For -er verbs, the tu form drops its -s.
| Verb | tu | nous (let's…) | vous |
|---|---|---|---|
| tourner | Tourne ! | Tournons ! | Tournez ! |
| continuer | Continue ! | Continuons ! | Continuez ! |
| aller | Va ! | Allons-y ! | Allez ! |
| prendre | Prends ! | Prenons ! | Prenez ! |
| être / avoir | Sois ! / Aie ! | Soyons ! / Ayons ! | Soyez ! / Ayez ! |
Negative: Ne tournez pas ici. Ne traverse pas !
Reflexives in the imperative: Lève-toi ! · Levez-vous ! · Dépêchez-vous ! (hurry up) — the pronoun goes after, and te becomes toi.

6 · Tâches
Tâche 1 · Production écrite — Un message avec l'itinéraire (50–60 mots)
A French-speaking friend is visiting. Write a message explaining how to get from the metro/bus stop to your home. Use the imperative (vous or tu), at least three direction phrases and two prepositions of place. মেট্রো/বাস স্টপ থেকে আপনার বাড়ি পর্যন্ত পথনির্দেশ লিখুন।
Modèle
Tâche 2 · Production orale — Jeu de rôle
DELF A1 speaking part 3 is a role-play. Play both parts aloud: you are lost in Toronto and ask a passer-by the way to the library; then be the passer-by and give directions. Record it. দুই ভূমিকাই বলুন: পথহারা আপনি এবং পথ দেখানো পথচারী। রেকর্ড করুন।
Modèle
— Non, c'est à dix minutes. Vous allez tout droit, vous traversez la place, et vous tournez à droite après la banque. La bibliothèque est au bout de la rue, à gauche.
— Tout droit, la place, à droite après la banque, au bout de la rue. Merci beaucoup !
— De rien, bonne journée.
7 · Culture — Streets, floors and the metro
- Floors: in France the ground floor is le rez-de-chaussée and the floor above is le premier étage. In Québec, as in North America, le premier étage often means the ground floor. Ask.
- Street names in Québec keep the French order: rue Sainte-Catherine, boulevard Saint-Laurent, avenue du Parc. Montréal's metro has four coloured lines; Toronto's subway lines are numbered.
- Distances in metres and minutes on foot, never "blocks" in France; in Québec, un coin de rue (a block) is common.
- Always bonjour before asking, merci, bonne journée after. A passer-by who is not stopped with a bonjour may well keep walking.
